Long Island Coalition Against Bullying to Host Press Conference Endorsing Key NYS Legislation: Stop Addictive Feeds Exploitation (SAFE) Act and the NYS Child Data Protection Act
LICAB is holding a press conference on 5/31 in support of two nonpartisan bills currently in the NY state senate. The SAFE for Kids Act and the Child Data Protection Act – both aimed at protecting kids from the addictive nature of social media by mandating the social media companies block access to feeds during nighttime hours for minors and block social media companies from being able to trade or sell a child’s private data – both built upon the foundation of parental consent and involvement. Speakers will include LICAB Executive Director Joe Salamone, Stetson Cybergroup Director of Data Security and Risk Management Joseph Horowitz - CISA, CDPSE, CIA, CRMA, A/CCISO, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Marissa Vicari, and Jeffrey L. Reynolds, Ph.D President and CEO of Family and Childrens Association in addition to local legislators.
The Long Island Coalition Against Bullying (LICAB) announced today its endorsement of two bipartisan NYS Senate Bills under consideration. A press conference is planned for Friday, May 31, at 9:00 AM at the Long Island Children’s Museum in Garden City to encourage greater understanding and support of the mission-critical legislation.
The press conference will feature key speakers, including LICAB Executive Director Joe Salamone, as well as LICAB’s non-profit, mental health, and cybersecurity partners. Also in attendance will be local legislators and advocates who have been instrumental in drafting and promoting these bills.
Attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about the specific provisions of the SAFE Act and NYS Child Data Protection Acts, and their potential impact on improving both the mental health and data privacy of minors in New York State.
